Today was our longest day of hiking.
I think that we covered about 20 miles of walking but this included a mile in the morning from the bed and breakfast to the trail and 3 miles in the evening from the trail to the place we are staying at tonight. The highlights of the trek were seeing Heddon on the Wall which has a part of the wall excavated and exposed for us to view and walk along. The other cool thing in that town was an old church from 650 AD. Though there were many upgrades from modern times, it still has the feeling of being old and rustic. These churches are surrounded by a cemetery and tombstones in the gardens. I took a couple of pictures for your enjoyment.
The other interesting thing was a fort similar to the one at at Segundum, however it was completely buried so there wasn't much to see.
As for the long hike, it was pretty flat and crossed into many lamb and sheep pastures. We had to go through like 50 gates all of which hate a different latch on them to keep the sheep in. I was pretty exhausted after today and was running on empty for the last couple miles. Dinner was a welcomed pick me up and now I am resting my legs for the hike tomorrow.
